1) Set a Hard Rate Floor

Your rate floor is your non-negotiable minimum. Calculate it once, then never quote below it. This prevents hidden losses from underutilization, revisions, and platform fees.

2) Quote in Three Tiers

  • Essential: lower scope, lower price, fewer revisions.
  • Core: your default recommended package.
  • Premium: higher speed, strategy, and stakeholder support.

Tiered proposals increase close rates and reduce negotiation pressure on your core offer.

3) Apply Scope Controls

  • Define deliverables in measurable terms.
  • Set revision limits and response-time windows.
  • List what is explicitly out of scope.

4) Use Adjustment Rules

  • Rush timeline: add 20-40% premium.
  • Weekend or holiday support: add 25-50% premium.
  • On-call availability: add monthly retainer component.
  • High ambiguity projects: move from fixed fee to milestone pricing.

5) Review Close Rate Monthly

If close rate is above 70%, raise prices. If below 30%, improve positioning and scope clarity before discounting.

6) Negotiation Script Structure

  1. Start with outcome value, not hourly rate.
  2. Anchor with your core package.
  3. Offer scope trade-offs instead of price cuts.
  4. Confirm timeline and approval process before final pricing.
